Odin Feldman Pittleman Mourns the Passing of Founder Dexter Odin
RESTON, Va., March 12, 2024 – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dexter Odin, a founding member of Odin Feldman Pittleman. Dexter passed away peacefully surrounded by his family last week.
“Dexter was a leader, mentor, partner, and friend to so many,” said OFP Managing Shareholder Doug Ross. “He was a truly brilliant lawyer, always coming up with ideas that no one else would think of. He prided himself on practicing law the right way, in the most ethical of manners. His passion for justice and unwavering dedication to his clients have left an indelible mark on the firm and the legal profession as a whole.”
The first County Attorney for Fairfax in 1967, Dexter was a powerful advocate for justice throughout his career. In 1968, he and David Feldman entered private practice, and in 1972, Jimmy Pittleman joined the pair to form the firm now known as Odin, Feldman & Pittleman. Over the years, Dexter served as lead counsel for several governmental agencies, including a 17-year stint as the attorney for the town of Herndon.
For Dexter, being in business meant being a vibrant contributor to the local business economy. Not only did he provide generous charitable support to organizations such as the Fairfax Bar Association, The Loudoun Laurels Foundation, and a variety of local and national charities dedicated to the cause of improving the lives of those less fortunate, but he also encouraged the firm he founded to build deep community ties in return for the privilege of doing business. An avid supporter of George Mason University, he (and OFP co-founder David Feldman) donated 12 acres of land that would become the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts in Manassas, Virginia. He believed the expansion was vital to the growth, future, and culture of both GMU and Prince William County.
Having demonstrated exceptional legal acumen and tireless advocacy, Dexter was widely recognized for his unwavering expertise. In 2012, 2015, and 2021, he was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Municipal Law by The Best Lawyers in America.® He was inducted into the Virginia Lawyers Hall of Fame in 2023.
