2011-10-18Summary: Dulles Chamber GovCONnections Cyber Security Lunch & Learn - October 18, 2011
At our recent Dulles Chamber GovConnections Lunch & Learn, we kicked off our 3-part series about cyber security, supply chain assurance, architectural impacts & training, with the view from the DoD. The top speakers from Booz Allen, Northrop Grumman & US Navy Intelligence reviewed the threats against, and the needs of, government agencies & their contractors. Here are some of the practical take-aways for those of you who missed it.
Some Facts:
-
The military is more mobile than ever and communication is taking place over channels that are becoming more difficult to protect.
-
Daily attacks are targeting the weakest link in a network.
-
Whoever controls the electromagnetic spectrum will control the battlefield.
Ingenuity Needed!
Federal agencies & contractors are all aggressively seeking to: (1) understand the threats as they change, (2) develop/have plans to mitigate those threats, (3) implement those plans throughout the organization, including supply chains, (4) educate the whole organization, and (5) repeat.
The government can only do so much – they need the private sector to constantly innovate and execute based on the ever-changing cyber threat landscape.
Businesses that are developing, or have, solutions are the ones with which the government & large contractors want to work. Solutions may be in the form of software, hardware, or other IT components, but also include facilities, physical security, and other non-IT products.
Our next GovConn session will be on Tuesday, November 15th at the Westfields Marriott 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. We will focus more on civil/federal agencies with speakers from IBM, General Dynamics, Homeland Security & GMU.
Please call us if you would like to discuss the substantive aspects of this presentation or for more information on GovConnections events. The Dulles Chamber asked OF&P’s Government Contracts Practice to continue as the lead law firm partnering with them on another year-long series on the changing dynamics of the Government Contract industry. We welcome your participation in future sessions!
