Janet Lammersen Kuhn Esq. is Special Counsel in the firm and a member of the Trust, Estate and Tax Planning practice group. Janet pioneered the inclusion of provisions in revocable living trusts which provide protection for elderly clients in the event of their incapacity. Ms. Kuhn has extensive experience nationwide as a speaker at continuing legal education programs for other attorneys. At Odin, Feldman & Pittleman, Janet provides a wealth of experience in estate planning and elder law including the areas of long term health care, Medicaid planning, and special needs trusts for disabled individuals, both children and adults.
Prior to joining the firm, Janet was Senior Of Counsel at Zell Law. Previously, she was the Principal Attorney and founding shareholder of the Law Offices of Janet L. Kuhn in McLean, Virginia. Janet headed her practice for almost twenty years counseling her clients on their estate planning, tax planning and elder law issues.
Prior to managing her own firm Janet was an Associate with Steptoe & Johnson, in Washington, D.C. At Steptoe & Johnson, Janet practiced antitrust, legislative and administrative Law. She argued her first court case against the Justice Department in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Janet won the case having argued it while six months pregnant and sitting in a wheelchair because of a broken ankle suffered five days before trial. Shortly thereafter, Janet won on an identical issue she argued before a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Janet began her professional career as a Legislative Assistant for Congressman Alphonzo Bell, Jr. of California. She later became the congressman’s Chief of Staff, one of the first few women to achieve that position on Capitol Hill.
Janet became a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) at its first membership meeting in 1988. She is also a member of state and local bar association sections on trust and estates and elder law. She was active in the Virginia Women Attorneys Association for many years, hosting at her home the VWAA’s annual holiday reception for Northern Virginia Judges from both state and federal courts; the VWAA’s annual party drew as many as 300 guests, including most judges and top members of the local bar associations.
