2012-01-26Fairfax County Shopping Center Owners, Restaurateurs and Sports Bars: Beware!
County staff is proposing a zoning ordinance amendment which will fundamentally change the zoning regulations applicable to full-service eating establishments which also provide some form of entertainment, including: DJs, dancing, karaoke, sports games (e.g., billiards, darts), hooka establishments, etc. Staff is proposing a new use, called "public entertainment establishments," which will require special exception approval from the Board of Supervisors and, more importantly, significantly increases parking requirements (i.e., double). Special Exception zoning approval is a 6-9 month process where the application alone (excluding legal and engineering fees) is $16,375.00.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to accept public comment at a public hearing on February 23, 2012. The Board of Supervisors has already scheduled a public hearing on March 6, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.
